Bowie & Nova
First, a bit of my personal history. In November 1983, waiting for a friend in a bar in Montreal, I was able to talk a few minutes with an old idol of mine, David Bowie.
In early summer 2005, I was able to get all the health clearances for Nova's first breeding. Finding a proper male was hard so I decided to go to the National specialty in Thunder Bay, hoping to find one. It's where I fell in love with 'Bowie' (Dutch/American/Canadian CH Serilde Velenocelestiale), who arrived the day before from the Netherlands, all the stars were aligned for Nova's first date.
So on November 16 2005, right on schedule after 63 days of gestation, Nova was on my couch when her water broke, I brought her in the whelping box and eight wonderful black puppies were born, 5 males and 3 females, all in good health. It was the beginning of a great adventure, which I did not know at the time! All the dogs of this first litter have a registered name from a song by David Bowie.
The original plan was to keep only a female. At the time, without the social medias and the Web we now have, having only six reservations, I decided to keep two puppies from this litter, the best girl and the best boy: Céleste and Baxter. The life we had together was simply a fantastic one. Céleste was able to continue this journey into the Flat-coated Retriever world!
The last living dog from our very first litter, Jules (Knightcastle Golden Years) passed away on December 23 2019 at over 14 years old.
