Bowie & Nova

First, a bit of my personal history. In November 1983, waiting for a friend in a bar in Montreal, I was able to talk a few minutes with an old idol of mine, David Bowie.

In early summer 2005, I was able to get all the health clearances for Nova's first breeding. Finding a proper male was hard so I decided to go to the National specialty in Thunder Bay, hoping to find one. It's where I fell in love with 'Bowie' (Dutch/American/Canadian CH Serilde Velenocelestiale), arrived the day before from the Netherlands, all the stars were aligned for Nova's first date.

On November 16 2005, eight wonderful black puppies were born, 5 males and 3 females, all in good health. It was the begenning of a great adventure, which I did not know at the time! All the dogs of this first litter have a registered name from a song by David Bowie.

The original plan was to keep only a female. At the time, without the social medias and the Web we now have, having only six reservations, I decided to keep two puppies from this litter, the best girl and the best boy: Céleste and Baxter. The life we had together was simply a fantastic one. Céleste was able to continue this journey into the Flat-coated Retriever world!

Commitment to the breed

Each litter is carefully planned considering the quality, health clearances, the pedigree and also the accomplishments of the dogs involved. Knightcastle is not breeding for one specific goal or purpose and has a litter on the ground mainly to fulfill its own requirement, not to accommodate the demands.
